Hi everyone! I'm a little bit worried about my 13 year old cat, it could be nothing but wanted to get some advice before making a vet appointment!
She's generally a healthy cat but lately she's been hiding under the bed a lot and has been up and down with her eating. She has IBS and has special food for that which she used to eat straight away but now she's leaving it and going back or hardly touching it - I've never seen her drinking water so unsure if she's touching that as she's on a wet food diet. She's also sometimes pooping outside the litter box (I know this could just be her getting caught a bit short) and recently she's been more vocal - walking into the living room and random yowling which she never did before. She has been sneezing and (maybe) coughing a tiny bit but nothing consistent, only a bit every few days, if that!
The past couple of days she's vomited up a clear liquid which has no odour or consistency, it's just like a lot of spit. She's also just done a poo in the litter box but then come in with her paw and side smeared in what looked a bit like diarrhoea but her poop was solid and a different colour and after tons of investigation there doesn't seem to be anything else around. I assumed she slipped off the litter box into her poo but there wasn't any marks in it...
After this she got a bit embarrassed and cried when we tried to clean her up and then hid from us for ages and is now sleeping with us with her stinky bum pointed at our faces. She seems fine in herself and her personality hasn't changed much if at all, although after she was sick she wouldn't leave my side at all and just wanted constant attention - she's become more clingy but that could just be because we spent 10 days with her off work over the Christmas period.
It could be nothing but I'm very aware that a 13 year old cats health can go down hill quickly and wanted to get a bit of advice from other owners before I book her in for a vet appointment as our surgery is quite busy. You know how it is when you see your pet is a bit sick, you just panic and go to the worst case scenario! She's the first cat I've owned all to myself so I've never seen these "behind the scenes" things before. I must mention that there is a mould problem in our flat and despite cleaning it away and drying out the air with radiators and dehumidifiers, it still comes back so I was worried that this might be affecting her as some of it is at cat level. Hopefully little Mabel is fine but I just wanted some opinions. I'll probably end up booking an appointment before I get any responses to this anyway because I'm a worrier!!
Thank you everyone for all your help, it's really appreciated by me and Mabel
