While gross and scary-looking, scorpions keep the insect population down. Here in AZ, we have several species of them, the most dangerous being the small bark scorpion. The very young, very old and people with heart and/or respiratory problems are susceptible to the venom. Some cats are also highly sensitive to it.Originally Posted by Missy&SpikesMom

You know, I KNOW there is that proverbial "food chain"--but it is REALLY difficult to read or see it in action. OH, and that thing is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO gross.... What in the world, would they be GOOD for??????
also, unlike bees, scorpions can sting over & over, raising the level of poison. we had small brown scorpions at our place when i was growing up - they would head into the house during really wet weather. after exterminating inside 2-3 times, we finally got rid of them. but not before 3 of us were stung!Originally Posted by Blueyes
Very, very unfortunate what happened to those kitties, but I'm surprised that an emperor can kill a cat. They're sting is equivalent to a bee sting, but then again I don't know the specifics on how the toxicity affects a cat in comparison to a human. .
