My new cat Bitsy (adopted from HS Dec 12), estimated to be somewhere between 1-2 yrs old but I think it's much closer to 1 yr.........I've noticed from when I first brought her home, she poops a lot more than my older cats do and I'm not sure if this is something to be concerned about?
She was a little gassy when I first got her and her poops were a little more on the soft side but I attributed that to me switching her to a different food (they fed her crappy Science Diet kitten food at the HS). But I noticed that she would poop about twice at day.
I'm no longer keeping track because she's no longer isolated in her own room obviously.....but I noticed this yesterday: I came home from being gone all day (4pm), she pooped and peed in litterbox ..normal sized formed poop...........then 4 hrs later (8pm), she pooped in the box again......another normal amount of formed poop. I hadn't fed her any canned food in between but she's free to nibble on dry food that's out so could have had some of that, likely did.
I'm used to older cats that poop once a day!
Is it normal for a young cat to poop twice in 4 hours, definitely normal sized amounts? How can she produce that much? LOL Is this something to be concerned about? It's been so many years since I had a young cat....we're talking 15 yrs, and I didn't know much about cats back then so I am not really sure what's normal/usual.
Is it just because she's young and her metabolism is higher than an older cat?
I thought I'd read that young cats poop twice a day.
For food she gets a wide variety.
Canned twice a day: a can the size of a Fancy Feast can..............sometimes Fancy Feast, sometimes Natural Balance, she prefers the chunky food in gravy. She also nibbles on whatever canned food the other 4 get.........Wellness, Eagle Pack, Solid Gold, Friskies (the others are very picky when it comes to canned...what they devour one day they turn their noses up the next, go figure, so I always offer a wide variety because I prefer them to eat more canned than dry, as they're older.
Dry: Felidae, Orijen and one of the Eagle Pack Holistic Dry foods (Feline Holistic?)
She's very energetic and healthy, as you'd expect a young cat to be.
OH.....and she was dewormed twice at the H.S., with Milbemax - which my own vet said was sufficient such that he didn't think we needed to give anything else (i say this because when I adopted Hobee, it was the H.S. themselves that used some other deworming med...one they admitted wasn't that great and it was them that suggested after adopting Hobee, to go to my own Vet and have him given something better......but it seems the H.S. has since changed their practices so they now give something more effective there......which should have been the case to begin with for crying out loud)
Thanks
