My adopted cat has always had urinary issues. She always tried to pee all the time in the litter box, usually only a little came out untill she actually had to actually pee. They never found a cause, they assumed it was because of stress. She also has always let urine flow during napping and sleep and laying down.

She has had UTI and crystals and all that, on and off, also blood in her urine. Last year it got really bad but she’s on a strict diet right now. No more blood in urine. No stones seen on echo.

When they looked at her urine a few weeks ago they only saw a few crystals, so that’s getting better, and still some bloodcells,so signs of inflammation. She’s on Meloxidyl already for quite some time and I got these capsules against stress.

Not sure they are working. I am now giving them into her mouth as a whole because when I sprinkle it on her food she doesn’t eat it all at once. So I have to wait a few days to see if it makes a difference. But she drops urine everywhere and seems to be unaware of it.

it’s really frustrating and I feel the vet isn’t much of a help. They just want me to re-check urine over and over and over again like I am filthy rich haha. Anyone any advice or ideas?! Medication I can buy myself online that works? Something that helps her pee muscles or something?

Have they told you which kind of crystals they are? There are two, and for the life of me, I can't remember which is what, or the names of either of them, but they require different diets and treatment. However, hang in there. It is VERY early here in the USA, where a lot of our members who have dealt with kidney issues live. It does sound as if she is improving, and that's a very good thing!

Hi. For the meds, try to put them in some 'treat' type food to make it easier on the both of you. Here are the 'treats' I use for Feeby's meds - just a small amount to ensure she eats all of it before I give her a regular meal:
1.) 'juice' from canned tuna and chicken, and then give her a piece of the meat as a treat afterward
2.) baby food meats (Gerber Stage 2 or Beechnut)
3.) lickable treats, such as Applaws, Wholehearted, Tiki Cat Stix, Inaba Churu, Vitakraft - just to name a few
4.) Tiki Cat Mousse (which is complete meal, not a treat)

It sounds like there is something anatomical in nature that is causing her to leak urine. If there were to be a 'structural' issue, that could also cause UTIs. The fact the vet has her on Meloxidyl suggests s/he too feels this an anatomical/structural issue as this med is sometimes used for musculo-skeletal disorders. Has the vet discussed this with you at all, including if there are various treatment options?

I think a second opinion is in order, by someone who is more specialized in urinary disorders. I don't know where you are located, but in the US - and certain other countries as well - there is a group of vets affiliated with the ASVNU (American Society of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology). Pet Owner Page — American Society of Veterinary Nephrology and Urology (asvnu.org)

At a minimum see if your vet would be willing to consult with someone from this group of specialists. I know you are worried about the financial aspect, but this would be a much better use of your money in order to actually get her condition diagnosed/identified and treated appropriately. There may be other options besides just Meloxidyl.

EDIT: To expound in the type of crystals/stones. Struvite generally can be dissolved with urinary care foods. If they are oxalate stones, are are large enough, the only way to get rid of them is through surgery. Feeby had oxalate stones at the age of 5 and had to have surgery. I will say in her case, she never leaked urine, but did have a couple of UTIs which is what lead to the stone diagnosis. Urinary care foods can also help to prevent future crystals/stones of both types.

Maybe get another vets opinion

First of all, thanks all of you for replying to me. Sorry I answer so late, I've been busy and you know how it goes. I am giving her foods that is suppose to dissolve and prevent struvite and keep the PH levels healthy. Struvite is what they found in her urine. When I did an echo no stones were found. I called with the vet again and they themselves don't understand the situation. I decided to take her off of the meloxidyl (they did not tell me that if I give it too long that I can create kidney problems) and off of the capsules. No more chemical stuff. I bought these natural based pills called inconti stop that are supposed to make her bladder muscles stronger. She's still "leaking" but so far it does seem less. There are no other symptoms, just the leaking. I decided to keep her off of the meds I mentioned and continue on giving these new natural pills and then take the next step depending on the results. I have been feeling less stressed because the bladder incontinence seems less at the moment. Let's hope for the best!

If the pills are powder form, try mixing in some water and adding to the wet food. I give my cat Nutracys but I live in the UK so don't know if it's available where you live. Also look at Cornsilk and D Mannose, both natural products.
