That's wonderful!
Under the circumstances, it's just about as good as you could hope for -- I'm so glad!

I know I keep pushing this on everyone who's dealing with cancer in any way, but let me do it again: if you haven't called the American Cancer Society's hotline, please do: 1-800-ACS-2345. My best friend in the world is a supervisor at their national call center, and it's phenomenal how much help they can provide to patients and their families -- they can help you understand what the doctor is telling you, help you figure out what questions you should be asking, point you toward local resources of every possible kind, and on and on. The only thing is -- not every single one of their call-takers is as highly motivated as my friend is. So if the first person you reach doesn't seem to really jump in with both feet, call back until you get someone who does!

Sending healing hopes for your dad, and peace of mind for you.

Thank you so much!
I'll definitely pass that number on to them, they are struggling to get their retirement and disability and all through so that will be a big help to them.

When they do the PET scan they are going to run an MRI of his brain as well, but the doc said he's really sure that there should be nothing there. His main concern is that adrenal gland. They discussed the Chemo and radiation with him a little but didn't want to go to in depth until after they got the results of these other tests. How are they going about treating your Dad?

The doctors seem really optimistic, which gives me and my family a lot of hope. His specialist said that there is an awesome chance of putting it in remission if it isn't in that gland. That was better news than I was expecting. I guess you just always brace for the worst you know?

Keep me updated on your Dad, I'll keep him in my prayers. It's a scary scary ordeal.
I am scared half to death
We all are. My Dad is 72 very muscular, and slender, he was still doing remodeling up until he was diagnosed, he's in great shape except for the cancer of course. The Doc keeps saying you are a strong man, they can't believe he has no bad symptoms from the chemo and radiation so far just a sore throat, he's not tired and he's been going for over a month now, after 4 months they will do a catscan of his lungs to see if it has shrunk. One thing that bothers the doc is that my Dad is thin and only eats once a day so they have been pushing him and he has been stuffing himself with everything he can get his hands on and he hates that feeling. They keep saying you can beat this if you EAT
The chemo he is on is Taxol and Carboplatin(this one will make him lose his hair
) and The radiation, sometimes they do not do radiation at the same time but they said he can handle it. Also this past week they put him on an anti-depressant, I really wish they gave this to him right off the bat then he would feel better emotionally right now, he's an absolute wreck.
I hope emotionally your Papa is better off than my Dad.
I pray for your Papa's strength and you and your family's during this time

Aww sweetie.

So far I think he's doing ok. He's not sleeping well at all right now, and his legs keep swelling up really badly (thats what got him to the doc in the first place). They've finally found a med for the pain in his legs that he likes though, so I think he's doing a bit better. The doctor has prescribed him meds to help him quit smoking before he starts treatment and of course that is going to make him want to pull his hair out, but he knows he has to. My Dad went through chemo all last year (he has Amyloidosis) and they said that the only thing that kept him from being so sick is that he has a good healthy appetite. If he doesn't eat enough his blood sugar and all will be low and make the chemo drag him down that much more. Has he tried just snacking on very small meals all through the day instead of eating big normal meals? That seemed to help Dad a lot.

Its so hard not to worry yourself sick. I think really we are all more sick over all of this than Papa is. Keep faith, sweetie. Believe me, I know how hard it can be, but keep faith. Your Dad sounds like he's in wonderful shape and has an awesome support system behind him, he should do just fine. I dread watching Papa go through chemo, but I keep telling myself that it will be worth it in the end and thats all that matters.

Stay strong sweetheart, and if you need anything at all, or just want to talk, feel free to send me a pm.

Get some Ensure for him. My dad drank that when he was undergoing chemo and radiation and it didn't make him feel full, but gave him the calories he needed. He was the same way, ate 1 big meal a day. Hope everything turns out ok.
