My cat, Gilbert, is 9 years old and has been vomiting and not drinking or eating for the past day or so. He is also constantly grooming himself. What could this be? (Also I noticed the first amount of vomit I found had some plant life in it)
Probably nothing drastic is wrong - unless he keeps vomiting. At his age 9/10 I would HIGHLY recommend you take him for a routine physical exam at the vet. You want to take him soon while he is in good shape so that they can take baseline tests for his blood and urine. Make sure he has plenty of water days before he goes and if you can give him canned food for a few days before instead of dry that would help hydrate him as well. You want him to be hydrated. If he is dehydrated from vomiting many of the readings on the test will be useless because the test results get skewed by dehydration. You want the results to be accurate otherwise you will have to redo them later.
When you make the appt tell them it is specifically for routine blood/urine tests. If money is an issue, call around to a few vets and ask what they charge as the price can vary widely. Here I have gone from $125 to $375 US.
Believe me it is easier to do it now than later in case something is wrong.
When you do go, ask if you can receive copies of the test results to keep in your file. You want to keep a folder and have all his records together in case there is ever an emergency and you have to see a new vet.
Yes he did hack up one soon after he threw up the first time. This is probably true since he has been shedding a lot and shares a bed with his much more fluffy sister
