Infection still has to do with bacteria. The urinary system is pretty clean. So bacteria gets in there somehow (compromised immune system). Crystals are often present with infections.

I have a feeling Millions of humans and other animals will disagree with you

Normal urine is sterile. I don't disagree that design has some openings but with a healthy immune system it shouldn't be a problem.
