Half persian, 1 year old.

Yesterday morning he was vomiting, hiding, and just obviously in pain. Took him to the emergency vet, where he still is right now.

Here are his symptoms:
- Swollen Penis. It wont retract back into his body.
- Vomiting. It's just foam at this point, and he wont eat.
- Pooping mucus. Maybe a stress response, as there's nothing in him.
- Anal prolapse, but it got better fairly quickly
- Fever that goes up and down.

Here is what has been checked:
- Xrays, no obstructions in his body or penis.
- Bloodwork, it's normal.
- Urine, it's normal
- Kidney, it's normal, no stones or crystals.

They're giving him anti inflammatories, pain meds, and stuff that would help if it was a UTI.

I'm at a loss. The vet bill is already 4k. I make minimum wage, I have nothing. Denied for Carecredit. I put all of it on a credit card. I don't know what to do if they say it requires further extensive treatment. He is my baby, I love him so much, I have no idea what to do. I can't sleep, I can't eat. Can anyone give me any words of wisdom here?

It's not going to help your cause financially, but I think a second opinion is in order, perhaps with a vet university where they tend to be exposed to a lot more conditions than the 'every day' vet is. A lot of vets work with universities, or can at least contact them, when they need some 'outside help'. If not a vet university, perhaps a specialty vet in your area - and your vet likely knows of one.

To help keep costs down, the records/tests your current vet has on your cat can be shared with other vets so that the same tests are not repeated. You should also be able to get copies from your vet for free, considering you actually paid for them when you paid for the testing.

thank you for the reply. He isn't eating or drinking, so I don't know how much leeway I have to take him anywhere else. At least here they are injecting fluids into him, I don't know if its a good idea to risk taking him anywhere else. As for finances, it's just impossible. That was the very last of available credit I had. I really don't know what to do, all of this feels like a nightmare.

I understand. At least ask the vet about them consulting with a vet university or specialist. An initial consult might not cost anything.

What about family member or friends that could loan you some money for whatever testing may be needed? If not that, then -

Your vet can consult with a veterinary school or other vet hospital for help on diagnosing the issue and treatment. This costs nothing to you. You do not need to bring your cat to the other place for further treatment. Your vet will just work with the other place and can just consult with them as needed based on your cat's needs.

I just wanted to come back and let anyone know who has similar issues that it was eventually discovered to be intussusception,(a portion of the small intestine (“entero”) pushes into the colon.)

It requires surgery. 6k. I am going to eat ramen for the next 10 years of my life, but it will be worth it. Posting another picture, just because I need witnesses, the poor thing.

I don't know what area you are in. In California there is the Face Foundation that helps pay for some of the surgery or all of the surgery if you have already done the diagnostics, which you have. Might try to look into something like that in your area. I know they have helped allot of people who were turned down for care credit.

I am so sorry your little guy is so ill.
