I'll start with a bit of background information.
I live in a small town of about 113 people and a 30 minute drive away is a large city. People come out here to "drop" unwanted animals, usually cats.
Outside another local woman and I feed and try to care for a revolving door of anywhere from 10 or more cats. At one point I brought in what seemed to me to be the only female either able to reproduce (because she had already had at least three litters of four kittens) so she could have them inside where it was safe and I could then get her fixed and try to find good homes for the kittens. I was able to get the two males and the mother fixed but sadly I couldn't afford to get the two females fixed as well so I intended to keep them inside only to prevent pregnancy. Sadly one of the females went into heat at about a year old and snuck outside when one of my kids went out the door and left it open. Although she was only out of sight for 20 minutes before I found her, she ended up pregnant. About a week before she gave birth she started looking very skinny and then I noticed she was losing hair on her hind quarters, she also sneezes a lot. Now she seems to be growing that hair back but losing it on her front legs and is still losing weight. She's terrifyingly skinny and I'm really worried. I don't know if this has something to do with her getting pregnant or what but she was very healthy and honestly a very beautiful cat before.
I'm not sure what to do at this point. I know most will say take her to the vet and if I could afford it, I would. I have exhausted every effort to tame and find homes for the feral kitties outside as well as the 8 I have inside the house. I have called shelter after shelter for someone to help find homes and even had a local vet offer to fix the cats for me for $35 each. I just sadly can't afford this. My love for animals is putting me deep into debt and keeping me awake at night. I'm trying to take this all one step at a time but it's very overwhelming so please be gentle with responses.
