Just got Squeak home. I guess he was a very, very good patient and they said they wish there were more like him
. Although, once home, he did release his anals upon exiting his crate,
and some got on my arm... YUK! He turned and looked at me as if to say "
That's for taking me to the vet, AGAIN!!!!!
The little stinker.....

The 2 xrays showed no stones, so that is some good news, and I guess I am not surprised as this is sometimes the case. I just want some answers, though
They did get the sterile urine sample and are sending it out for culture and sensitivity testing. Result will come back in about 5 - 7 days. So just more waiting at this point. I am hoping to get some answer from that culture
as this is making for a very stressful time for me, and Squeak too. If the culture comes back negative, then we discuss the next step in our quest to get his bladder healthy and feeling 100%. He is not on any meds at the moment. And I am just pumping as much water in him as I can. He is starting to love his water-downed wet food and seems to enjoy licking up the "gravy". Thanks again, dear friends
, for you care and concern. It means so much to me and to Pipsqueak too!

What a good little boy at the vets
The anal gland was just a favor mom, nothing but a favor

You just have to wait now, I know how hard that is.... There are some good anti-inflamatory supplements available if you want to look into those and discuss them with your vet.

Tons and tons of healing vibes from us

It's good the x-rays were clear, but the waiting and the not knowing is the hardest part, I know.
Just be aware you're not alone - we're all waiting and hoping here with you!

I'm glad Pipsqueak did so well at the vets today. That's good the x-rays showed no stones
I hope the other test shows there's nothing serious wrong with him

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Did the vet refer you to get an ultrasound while you wait for the results of the urine culture? Or just wait and see if there's anything percolating in there before taking on the expense of looking for stones that may not be there?

Believe me, Lauren, I know how hard it is to wait for test results. I also know this is easier said than done, but try not to dwell on it. As long as Squeak seems to be feeling good, there's not much you can do. Hopefully the culture & sensitivity tests will come thru quickly and give you some answers. You and the Squeak-ster are in my prayers.

I just logged on to the site to see all of your wonderful, supportive replies. It really made me feel stronger and I thank you for that

Marina - I will definitely call tomorrow and ask about some anti-inflammatory remedies. That might help him out, alot. I know alot of people have mentioned Cosequin, and I forgot to ask the vet, so I will ask about that tomorrow too.

Laurie - Doc said we will wait for the culture to come back first and then will proceed to the next step from there, the ultrasound at the specialist.

I made some fun vertical space changes for the cats today. I will have to get some pictures and post them. I don't know why I never thought of this before. We have vaulted ceilings and there are some built in oak wooden valances/shelves up high on the walls that run about six feet both ways out of a corner. They are about seven inches wide too, just perfect. I moved one of my cat furniture pieces up against the wall so they can jump from the top of that to the valance. At the moment, Perla and Squeak are resting up there in their glory.
Perla won't let her brother's up there, but Squeak, of course, since he is the boss of the house. He is a very happy boy tonight, thank goodness. I love
him sooooooo much and will do whatever I have to, no matter what, to get to the bottom of his problem.

I also went out and bought another Platinum Drinkwell fountain today. Petsmart has them on sale for $59.99. So I have one downstairs in the basement and upstairs now and hopefully Pipsqueak will drink even more

Again, I do appreciate everyone's kind words

Pins and needles time. He was really good at the vet! I don't think any of mine would have behaved so well. Especially Hoot. Keep us posted!

Squeak has been acting just totally normal. Playing and eating up a storm since being off of the Baytril. I water down his wet food ALOT and I try to sneak in more each day. I am so very concerned about his condition though
. I also noticed that this morning, his pee clump was a bit smaller.
. So I am watching him like a hawk, but what else is new
. He is laying right next to me while I am posting and giving me this loving look. He is telling me how much he loves me
and I can't help but get a tear in my eye at the moment. I have been getting some very valuable information from Momofmany (who has a cat with FIC) in the antibiotic thread. And now thinking back over his last four and a half years, he has had very mild issues on and off. When he was a kitten he battled with terrible diahrrea for about a year, Tritrichomenos Feotus was the culprit. I do keep him on the L-Lysine now because if he doesn't get that he gets a mild sniffle now and again, with some very mild eye drainage. He also had a fatty lump removed a couple of years ago, which is very unusual for such a young cat. I have never before today, though, thought that all of these "little" things could be caused from one bigger health condition.
. And then there is the concern of him just being, well, HIM, Mr. Soldier
who thinks he has to control everything around me. He also had separation anxiety and gets a bit worked up when he knows I am getting ready to leave.
I think I am just getting myself all worked up here this morning !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One day at a time.........

Feralvr, I can feel your pain through your words and I wish to heaven there was something I could do or say to help you. Please do know that I am praying for you and Pipsqueak both. It's so hard when we're worried about our little friends!

Hang in there, sweetie.

Good to hear.

Feralver,
What kind of L-lysine do you give to Squeak? I mean, is it the powder or some other form?

Don't mean to get off subject here but I had to ask.

Thanks,
Lori

Lauren, I have absolutely no advice. Just wanted to let you know that you and Pipsqueak are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure your vet will come up with an answer before too long. It does sound as if Mr. Pip has had some issues in the past, and you're right, it could all be related to whatever is going on now.
Stay calm, sweetie; give the little guy a little extra lovin' from me.

Lori
!! It's not off subject
, because the subject is about Squeak's health and anything I am doing or not doing that will better his condition is a HUGE help to me. He gets the NOW brand powder L-Lysine that I purchased on-line recommended by Carolina and Laurie. He has been getting that for quite a few months 250 mg. per day maintenance.

AC and Libby - thanks for your kind words. The support from you and everyone has been my "rock".

There's no place like home
I haven't read thru the entire thread, but caught the reference to Cosequin as an anti-inflamatory.

When trails were done originally for bladder-issue cats, they tested them with Cosequin because they thought it could reduce bladder inflamation the same way it helped joint inflamation. They didn't do a true control in that trial and also changed the diet of the cats taking Cosequin. Therefore, it appeared that Cosequin was effective for bladder inflamation.

On a subsequent trial, they did a more controlled test where they tested cats with their existing diets and Cosequin, versus cats with a diet change only. The Cosequin only cats showed NO improvement at all. The cats with a change in diet showed improvement.

The subsequent trial was done a few years back, but a lot of vets haven't kept up on their research and therefore suggest Cosequin as an anti-inflamatory. Don't waste your money on it because it won't help the bladder. If your cat is old with arthritis, it can still help that.

Thank you, Amy, I really appreciate the facts about the Cosequin. I also read through your replies in the Antibiotic Thread about Stumpy. It is quite possible that Squeak has an immune disorder now that I have been going back over his history. They were such "Minor" little things at the time, but now, combined all together with this new bladder problem. I have to wonder if it is immune
. That is unbelivable that Stumpy was allergic to Ellie Mae!!! I had never heard of a cat being allergic to a dog. I am concerned I won't get a definitive answer to Squeak's bladder issue
, and might just have to deal with the treating the symptoms. I will definitely be talking with Doc about the Pred. treatment, especially if the culture comes back negative. Then it is time to get the inflamation down, somehow.....

In answer to your question about Squeak being a feral rescue. No, I adopted out of a local shelter when he was about 12 weeks old. He was left in a box on the shelter stairs in ten degree weather overnight.
. He had serious diarrhea issues his whole first year of life...and it was finally diagnosed as that Tritrichomonas Feotus and he was treated for six weeks with Ronidazole. He could have allergies as well
, but I have never had skin issues with him yet as you did with Stumpy being allergic to Ellie Mae. That is awful about Stumpy's teeth and I am sorry he had to go through with that, but it sounded extremely necessary... Auto-immune disorders are such cruel diseases
.

Your information about FIC is REALLY helping me, Amy
. At least your Muddy has been able to be maintained and for the most part, staying healthy.
. It has been a great support to hear about how you are managing Muddy and Stumpy.

Lauren

P>S> If anyone has any suggestions on supplements to boost cat's immune systems, please share them
. I am going to keep Squeak on the L-Lysine too.

Just got word about Squeak's culture. It was negative. Should I be happy or sad???
I will say I am sad
I had a feeling the culture wasn't going to give us answers. Doc is calling me tonight to discuss the next step. Probably ultrasound and we will discuss diet. He said this is FIC. So I need to learn how to manage this awful condition.

FWIW, the upside is that most vets are very familiar with FIC and it's a hot topic in the vet world. It's frustrating when anyone has a chronic health issue that can't be traced to a specific cause, but at least you and your vet are very aware of the issue, and will work together at finding something that will help.

Basically, that's what I'm telling myself - I'm taking my boy a week from Saturday for a second urine sample, as his sample last month had traces of blood cells. No crystals, and he's acting just fine....I guess I'm glad I know there's a possible issue, and that I have access to vets, but I'm frustrated as well.
