I've searched for a previous thread because there has to be an answer I'm looking for:

How do you pet your cat(s)?
How do you stroke and finesse your feline friends?

I've had cats that LOVE being pet, but right now I have cats that are MEH

I'm trying not to lead on top of their head, and I know cats like a good scruff behind the neck

But what else? And I'm working with rescues

Most cats enjoy being scratched under their chin/their cheeks.

But I've also found that for some cats, you have to wait for THEM to ask for pets before giving them, otherwise they will always be "meh" when it comes to petting. 2 of my cats are like that

One of my cats loves to be petted (just about anywhere but his tummy). He's the only cuddly one of the 3.

Most of them like a good cheek rub. But not really a rub, more of a stroke with the tops (knuckle side) of your hands, so they rub their own scent on them and "own you". Generally holding out your hand to them, level with their neck they will respond if they're happy to be petted.

I have one that prefers not be touched AT ALL.

And another that LOVES to be petted and brushed.. soft, hard, with the grain, against the grain, anywhere, everywhere, OH PLEASE DON'T EVER STOP!!!
