I wasn't sure where to post this, so I am posting it here. It's not just about cats, so I didn't post it in Cat behavior.

People are naturally concerned about whether their pets can go blind. The upshot of it is: no, they most likely (I would add : especially if they are indoors) won't stare at the eclipse:

I don't know that I've ever seen my kids looking up at the sun. Birds in the bushes....yes. The sun....no. Being inside, there are few windows that would actually look at the sun, especially during the summer, since it's so much higher in the sky. I don't think it's a problem. (Although one of my co-workers is going to shut all his drapes before he goes to work on Monday....just in case!)

The sun is the sun; if your pets don't stare at it at other times they aren't going to start now! Only humans would know that there's anything interesting to see there. Also, generally speaking, only humans would be dumb enough to keep looking even when it hurts their eyes .
