I don't know if this is the right forum for this thread, but I'm not sure where to put it. This topic is inspired by this thread on pet insurance. The general consensus seems to be that it's not really worth it.
I've been interning at the Texas Department of Insurance for this summer, and my time here is almost up. But before I leave, I want to see if there's anything I can do to get the ball rolling for better regulation, at least here in Texas.
Does anyone have any specific complaints with specific companies? Is there anything you would like to see improved as far as pet insurance companies? (For instance, I found out today that pet insurance is classified as property and casualty insurance, under miscellaneous casualty - so it's compared to automobile and house insurance, and maybe not even that, since it's miscellaneous and the others have their own category.) However, it is supposed to be regulated. Usually, at least in other cases, the reason companies don't suffer any penalties is because many people don't actually report it to the government.
So, what needs to change? Please PM me if you have any suggestions or complaints. I don't know that I can change anything, but I can at least let the people here know if something is going on.
NOTE FOR MODS: If this thread is inappropriate for this area ad needs to be moved or removed, feel free to do so, but please let me know. Right now, I'm just researching to see if there is a big enough problem that we can actually act on. Thank you.
