Does Dr. Phil say that? I've never watched him - well that's not entirely true - I think I tuned in once and hubby and I neither one could stand him. That's one thing we agreed on.

1. Neither of us ever says anything in anger that cannot be taken back, i.e., even if he is really upset or mad about something, he will say, "Honey, I can't talk about it right now, I need to calm down". Neither of us has ever sworn at or called the other one a nasty name in 32 years.

2. Never take each other for granted. I've been cooking for him for 32 years (and I mean cooking since I don't used prepared or processed foods and make everything from scratch), yet it is rare for him to sit down to a meal and not say thank you for making a nice dinner even after all these years. In return I always thank him for fixing things on my car and doing any little errands for me. I always let him know he's appreciated.

3. If you have a difference of opinion and it isn't earth-shatteringly important, agree to disagree. It isn't necessary to be "right" and it's OK to feel differently about something even though you are a couple. Hubby does like to argue until he can get me to agree with him sometimes. I just listen and nod and at the end of his speil I tell him I appreciate that he feels differently than I do about the situation, but as long as nobody gets hurt or dies, it's not worth fighting/arguing about.

Those will at least get you off to a good start.
Cool Linda!...

Why not? You mean you don't like pompous, know-it-all type men?
