Over the past few days our 1.5 yr old male cat has become totally confused. Absolutely nothing in the environment has changed. He walks around very slowly and extremely skittish. Scared of items he’s seen hundreds of times. At first we thought he was having vision problems but we now believe it is a mental issue. Last night while I was in the room we are keeping him in he peed on the floor as he was laying down. He soaked himself and then proceeded to lick it up like he didn’t know what happened. He didn’t even attempt to find the nearby litter box.
he is eating, not vomiting.
we are sad and at loss for answers.
brain tumor? Ideas please

Has he been seen by the vet? What tests did they do? Bloodwork show anything?
Seen by the vet. No tests yet. He claims he’s never seen anything like it in his 40yrs. He was doubtful blood and urine would show anything

I'd get a second opinion and insist on having blood work and urine analysis done. Those might now show anything but it's good to have a baseline of your cat's system to compare to later.

Did anything happen recently that may have scared / stressed your cat? Sudden noise only the cat can hear? Strange person in the home? Outdoor critter annoying the cat? Cats are super sensitive and anything can cause them to become skittish.

You can try Feliway to see if that helps the cat.

Ok
No. We are not talking normal skittish. Im saying he may look at his food bowl like he’s never seen it before or a rug that’s been there since we got him. He’s having serious mental issues.

Take videos of the skittish behavior and show them to the vet. Many cats appear normal while at the vet's office so it's hard for a vet to see what is happening at home. You can ask the vet to consult with a veterinary neurologist for more insight.

You definitely need to get a second opinion,...find a new Vet.

Unbelievable that a vet with over 40 years experience would not do a simple Blood work-up...even if he thought nothing would show.
It's like the first thing, that all vets do, to 'Rule out' major problems.

If your cat had an electrolyte imbalance, and toxins built up in his system, ..it could explain his mental confusion, and Neurological symptoms.

Any chance that your cat could have come in contact with any poisonous substances...anything really, such as plants, chemical cleaners, medications, even mold growing on food, or check to see that his food has not been recalled.?

Definitely ask for a Neurological consult, if the Vet does not find anything.
If he has any sort of build up of crystals or sediment in his urine, then he could also be experiencing a build up of toxins within his system.
Becoming suddenly incontinent for a cat this young, is truly worrisome.

Try to see a Vet, asap. It may save his life.
