Yeah, no offense, Sarah, but could a mod combine the threads? I've actually seen at least 4 different threads on this topic over the course of today.

It is amazing, though - that's one cat I'd be afraid to cuddle up with!

I can tell you from experience that it is true. My friend is very ill with cancer and while usually Sadie loves to cuddle up with him, the last time I brought Sadie to see him, she sniffed at him and then ran away from him. When he tried to pick her up, as he always does (and she usually loves his cuddles), she hissed at him. She can sense his illness, of that I'm sure.

My master Tigger sleeps on DW. When he had FIL/MIL as slaves he slept on MIL. He slept on DW before he moved to MIL/FIL

He's a equal abuse err.... slave master. He'll push anyone who listens around. Charlie sleeps on son. I had a cat many years ago (named King Arthur) who insisted on sleeping on my pillow. He was that way from the day he walked into our house (he was a stray) I had to use him as a pillow many times. I still miss him after 25 years.

And maybe the "Oscar the Cat" thread can be renamed? I posted mine because I didn't see anything else with a similar title.

The final story on the NBC Nightly News tonight was about Oscar.
Those of you not on the East coast still have time to see it.
He's a beautiful cat.

If you get MSNBC, Countdown will have a story on Oscar starting in a minute or so.

It was a very short story, unfortunately, with the title "Dr. Catvorkian." Sigh. There have been so many childish, cutesy headlines about that beautiful cat. Google News turned up these "gems":

Fortunately the stories were more serious. You'd think from those inane headlines that Oscar had been killing healthy people, not providing reassuring companionship for people who had been dying for a long time and were finally close to crossing over. I wonder if the doctor who wrote that wonderful article about him had any idea how silly some of the media reaction would be?

Wow, thats pretty amazing. I heard them mentioning "death cat" on the radio (cracking jokes), but had no idea what they were talking about. A friend linked me to the news story but I couldnt see it at work. That truly is an amazing cat.

Thankfully the NBC Nightly News had a much better title "A Cat's Tale"
It was a short, but very well done story.

I saw that earlier today... makes you wonder, doesn't it?

I was thinking that perhaps slowing metabolism lets off a particular odor and that cats can detect it... but even then, why would the cat hang out with the dying person? Hmmm....
