I've found that when it gets old and dull, it starts making metal shavings. I have to replace mine about once a year. . .but like I said, I have a LOT of cans to open! It'll probably last a few years for most people.

I haven't found any cans that haven't worked on the smooth touch electric opener. It works pretty much the same way as a hand-operated smooth touch opener.

Oh wait, there's one soup brand that has a funny indentation at the top, and I can't open those on that side; I have to turn them over and open from the bottom. But so far no cat food cans like that.
