I saw Wicked a few years ago when it first came to Chicago (before they made it permanent) and I absolutely loved it! I had read the book first, and I do like the book better than the play.

To reconcile it for myself I decided that the ending of the play was actually in Glinda's head; that she imagined it that way to lessen her grief until a time when she could adaquately face it. I do wish it was closer to the book, especially the parts about Elphaba's parents.

You can still get the book for cheap. It has 2 covers: the original: http://www.amazon.com/Wicked-Life-Ti...03/ref=ed_oe_p and the one with the broadway show poster: http://www.amazon.com/Wicked-Times-W...08/ref=ed_oe_p. This one has pictures from the show. There's also another edition that is the size of a regular paperback (the others are somewhat oversized paperbacks), but I don't know if it has the pictures or the drawings from the original book

I saw that a year or so ago. I also saw Cats when it was playing. I hate to admit this, being a slave to three cats, but I remember Wicked much more vividly than I do Cats.
Wicked was awesome!
