I think you'll find the $200 million cost was PURELY for the opening ceremony!

They've spent more like $20 billion on the entire Olympics.

I missed it when it was shown live and it's taken till yesterday for me to get the link to it on the BBC Iplayer and oh wow! The opening ceromony was fabulous!

I can't get over the sheer numbers involved. To me $20 million seems like an aweful lot to spend on just one ceromony, which is why I had to watch it, but I can honestly say that it was worth every penny. The show was amazing! I still can't get my head around how many people were involved. 2008 just for one section alone!

I can't figure out what was my favorite bit. It was either those oars or the drums. The colour and music was fabulous! Although I did notice the feet in those moving blocks at the beginning, which really did ruin the surprise of them not being electronic. And I could see all the wires. AND when he was running around to light the torch (which was really interesting) I could see the gaps in the screens. I think I'm too observant...
