My 17 y/o tuxedo cat Sophie has always been a milk drinker. My 2 10-week old kittens can't handle cow's milk, so I'm giving them KMR, which they absolutely love. (the vet told me they don't need it anymore, but they're crazy about it; besides, I've still got half a can of mix left to use) Sophie turns her nose up at it. I've tried putting a dish of milk on the table for her, where the kittens can't reach it, but she's such a creature of habit she won't even consider drinking it there. She also has arthritis & can't get up there & back down again without help.
Sophie is also hyperT; she had blood work done last week & two numbers were so goofy that the vet has taken more blood for the test to be re-done. Her potassium levels read 3-4x normal, and her calcium was only 25% of what it should be. The vet said if those numbers were correct that she'd be dead! Well! That makes me wonder if she might have a calcium deficiency & that's why she's been such a milk drinker all her life. The new test results should be back late today, so we'll see just how goofy they actually were.
My big question (after all that) is this: does anyone have any ideas on something I could safely give both Sophie & the kittens? I hate to deprive Sophie of milk after all these years when it's something she likes so much, but I don't need a couple of kittens with diarrhea, either.
