I originally REALLY wanted a particular high risk OB for my pregnancy because he also has an aortic aneurysm so understands the condition, and apparently is an awesome OB. Unfortunately he no longer has clinics at my hospital - he's moved south by the beach (about a 50 minute drive away assuming no traffic) and only practises out of there, and just comes up here one day a week to do ultrasounds and stuff like that.
I couldn't see my second choice because he was out on sabbatical, so went with my third choice (who was also highly recommended).
As you probably know, I haven't been TOO impressed with my OB - she's over cautious about everything and freaks out about the smallest things. But I know she's got nothing but my best interest in mind, so I'm not too bothered.
Anyway, I had an ultrasound yesterday, and after the technicians were done, who comes in to check everything and read the ultrasound - but the original OB I wanted!!! And he WAS awesome!!!!! He was so nice, and so laidback, and exactly what I wanted out of an OB.
I asked him what he thought about someone with a 4.4cm aneurysm having a baby (my current OB thought I should terminate), and he said that I'm in the best care, and if I wanted to do it, there just wasn't enough information to say it would be a problem, and given it's been stable since I've known about it, everything should be fine as long as I take the proper precautions.
So we asked him his thoughts on birthing options - current OB wants a c section, we don't. He said he actually thought an assisted delivery using forceps, or preferably a vacuum was a lot less stress on my heart, and he would actually recommend that. So all his views are in line with our views, and everyone we talk to about our current OB laughs when we say her name and says "oh yes, she's very cautious and very forceful in her opinions".
I wish we had this other dude....
But our current OB is going on sabbatical for 6 months from September (I'm due in October), so we'll be changing to a different OB then - to the dude who was our second choice, who will be back from HIS leave by then
It sounds like everyone's got differing opinions, and our OB said that there's a group of 20 or so specialists who are meeting every couple of months about me, and she said it'll just depend on who screams the loudest at those meetings
But we'll try to see this other OB as soon as he's back so we can get his opinions. We're going to do what we can to avoid a caesarean!
