Normal panting?

So I had a cat show up at my house and she was obviously pregnant. She has really taken to me and I have kept her in the house. Yesterday she went through a 3 hr panting spell, which I was pretty certain meant she was going into labor because everytime my moms cat would have kittens she would pant for a few hours then have strong contractions right after. However, this little gal (Laya is what I call her) stopped panting and has resumed eating and drinking normally. Is that normal?

Bless you for taking her in! You can give her some KMR in addition to a good quality kitten food to ensure that she has enough calcium for a good, healthy labor. There's a thread here on TCS about the " Braxton hicks" type contractions plus there's a nice vet article to read. Please keep us posted!

Thank you! This is Laya, based on her mammary glands and the fact that she has milk, I expect her to actually have them any day, so I got worried. I've never experienced Braxton hicks in kitties.
