Ferel cats everywhere this spring. One of them loves my porch and guess what she brought today..
A new born kitten.
She's been hanging around under my veranda since I've moved here. I leave food and water out, just in case but I've never been able to get close enough to her. I noticed a few weeks ago that she looked 'fat' and suspected she might be pregnant. I saw her yesterday, sort of 'deflated' belly and knew she had her babies between the early AM and evening. So I've left extra food and water.
Bad news is two neighborhood dogs were running the place and must have found her nest. I remember seeing them One was a little terrier kind and another looks terrierish, too.
One of the kittens, still sticky from drool, was dropped at my front door. I searched for where I thought she may have had the others.. only to find chunks of .. you don't want to know. So she managed to save one but now won't come back to nurse it. I've been hoping, all day she would. I placed the baby in the small plastic crate I bought for Cheech, with some paper towels... and she just won't return. She stares at me from the corner of the veranda and I bring out the baby. She sniffs, hisses and runs off. I had removed the crate door so the crate itself should just look like a safe hiding place for the momma and baby.
So help! How do I help this baby and how do I help the momma?
What do I do? Did I mess something up bad?
