First off: WOW!! I wouldn't, for the life of me, think a forum for felines would be so popular. Thank the Gods that it is.
I have many questions and concerns I need to ask and get opinions on, but for this first introductory post... i will keep it at that.
My name is Victor, I am 32, live in Naples, Florida on a 5 acre lot with my parents, 2 dogs (one of which is a new mother of 7 puppies), a peacock, 4 Iguanas and 31 cats. I previously worked for Siemens Building Technologies in Phoenix, Arizona as a Fire Alarm Technician, and then came back home to help my parents after Hurricane Wilma.
No, that wasn't a typo; 31 cats. (No wonder I'm still single)
I know, sad huh? Wasn't always like this, we used to have about 50. :/ Living so far out in rural areas its easy for animals to get lost, funny thing is they usually end up coming to live with us. Our cats are spayed or neutered or soon to be. No, its not a dependency issue, we love all our animals equally and feed them just as well as us, if not better. The ASPCA would call it cruelty, but I believe it better they be here than dead on the side of a road somewhere or starving for food. We do pretty well for ourselves in a lawn and landscape maintenance business and don't mind spending the funds on the animals, but things do get tight now and then so we have to cut corners where we can... which has brought me to this site.
Our cats live indoors ...for a very specific reason: We have a POS A**hole neighbor who seems to enjoy clubbing them on the head or poisoning and killing them. We know this because we caught him sneaking up on one of our cats with a 1" dowel rod about 3 feet long in his hand and one day prior we had one of our cats come in crying and proceeded to curl up under my dads arm and die; later finding out it died from major cranial fractures and swelling on the brain. We've also had 3 cats come in seriously dehydrated and dying shortly afterwards...rat poison. Cant do anything about it since they are on his property. *shrug* So, they stay inside. If we could afford the $30,000.00 to put in the 8ft chain-link fence around the property, our troubles would be solved. Soon though.
The reason this has brought me to this site is because I was looking for wholesale/bulk cat litter and cat food, and not the cheap stuff. We feed our cats 2x a day a mix of Purina One dry cat food and 4 cans of Friskies 5.5oz canned cat food (not the cut/sliced/chunked stuff, it is like rubber), its affordable and obtainable from the local grocers but not always for a reasonable price. We also keep Purina One in 2 bowls for them to eat all day long. Our cats are happy, extremely energetic, personable and VERY healthy. We also have 2 12"wx36"Lx8"H plastic litter boxes 1/2 full of Tidy Cats Antimicrobial formula litter that are sifted once a day to every other day. It is a chore maintaining all the animals, but they are better off for it and we are rewarded by the pure pleasure of watching these cats play with one another all day long.
Anyway, there is my story.
I am looking forward to learning more and hopefully picking up tips on making my cats lives better.
Thanks.
