Feralvr, I think you are right about Henryetta maybe wanting to play with Chaucer and not knowing how. She acts like she wants to, jumps out at him, hesitates and then hisses if he approaches and goes to hide. I have mixed ideas about her behavior - she doesn't act "feral" and never really has, but then it's clear no one spayed her and she has to be at least 2 or 3 years-old. It makes me wonder what happened to the kittens - if they didn't make it or her "owners" got rid of them. This neighborhood has several torties, including a small one that I feed sometimes (and no, I can't take on another cat). I don't see two of them much anymore. I casually mentioned that they dined over here a lot to their owners I learned they had so they may have been keeping them inside. At least I hope that is the case, or else they know the food is no longer available for them.
With Miss H, I have been trying to socialize her to other cats because she will be going to a home that has a 6 year-old female with a calm personality. In fact, Miss H was picked because she was calmer than the other kittens. Of course my friends have a large home with an upstairs and doors that actually shut, unlike most of mine which are sliding doors cats can easily open.
