Hello, all.
We are in the process of adopting 3 kitten siblings. They are about 7 weeks old at present and we are just waiting until we get the ok that they are ready to come home. So this is REALLY from scratch.
We have always had 2 cats and a Dalmatian. (our cats have lived to 18 ...except one...and our dogs until 14+ yrs)
Two weeks ago the last of our beloved pets (Dalmatian) crossed the rainbow Bridge at almost 15 yrs. A year ago we said goodbye to our 18yr old cat Emmi. Several years before our beautiful Tortie passed at age 12 from a lung mass.
So we are "patiently" waiting for our kittens to come to their forever home. The waiting is very hard as the house is SO empty. But we have prepared the house for a big change in energy and they will have a charmed life when they arrive.
They were rescued by one of our local shelters and when the Momma cat could not feed them due to a mastitis they were hand raised. Our own Vet is also the shelter volunteer Vet so as Fate and Destiny would have it...when we said goodbye to our dog and I put out the call to adopt 2 kittens...Fate brought us 3!
We could not leave one behind! so instead of getting another puppy which we feel is just out of the question for us now...we are totally thrilled and committed to giving our 3 newest family members the best life ever.
I have been online researching all things KITTEN and found my way here. One of the first things I have interested in reading about it NUTRITION.
For almost 15 yrs I fed raw & home cooked for our dog. Our cats I always fed commercial foods. I never felt I knew enough about cat nutrition to take on home made for cats.
I have come across some info on the web about Life's Abundance brand, and Wysong Raw, ...many years ago I fed our cats Wysong...but that was before their Raw line.
Now I am curious to read here what ACTUAL people are actually feeding.
Starting with new kittens I have a chance to start them off right. I have read about the need to feed WET FOOD as the prime food and I will appreciate any input anyone has to offer to consider what is best.
If putting money into great nutrition keeps them healthy and out of the Vet's office for anything other than wellness checks etc. that would be worth it to me. It has been about 20 yrs since kittens have come into our lives. A LOT has changed.
This is going to be quite an adventure.
Glad to be here
Carol
