2 weeks ago our 1 year old Maxx brought a feral kitten in the house. He's still stand offish and doesn't let us pick him up yet, we still have to catch him off guard to hold him. I have recently moved the litter box out of the foyer and into the restroom. He refuses to use it to pee but he will poop in it. Now my furniture smells like urine. When I catch him peeing I'll catch him and put him in the litter box and close the door, usually leaving him in for a few minutes. Please help because I'd hate to put him in a shelter or rescue. Now as I'm typing this he just peed on the couch.

Firstly, do you know about how old the kitten is?

I suggest confining the kitten to a bathroom (this is preferred) or small bedroom with all the necessities (food/water, litter box, bed/blanket, and a few toys. If using a bedroom, make sure there is no furniture for him to hide under that you are unable to reach him.

There is also the option of confining the kitten in a large dog crate. Many of us use this method to socialize feral kittens.

Depending on room size, you may need more than one litter box.

It's very likely the kitten is overwhelmed in his new environment and, depending on age, simply may not be able to hold his bladder long (much like a young toddler.)

I definitely believe this issue can be corrected. So, if this is the only reason you would consider surrendering him, I don't think doing so is necessary.

Many cats won't wee where they poo.. mine won't.  I would definitely add another litterbox and keep them scrupulously clean.  And CatPack has given great advice.

I'm sure you can work with this little guy.. It just takes time.

I agree with @CatPack  Confining the kitten to a small room will make it easier to socialise him, as well as preventing litter box accidents. He's probably unsure of where he is supposed to pee. If he has any more accidents put the tissue you use to clean up with in his litter box, so he can smell where he is supposed to go. A good enzyme cleaner is the best thing to use to get the smell of pee out of your couch.
