Hello everyone, I'm new here..nice to meet you all! I wonder if you can help..
I have one rescue tabby boy (Oscar) that I have had since he was a kitten, he's nearly five. He is a gorgeous cat - very loving and affectionate - not a mean bone in his body. I have been wanting to get a kitten as a companion for him for a while now and on Saturday I finally brought home a beautiful chocolate stripey girl of about 8 weeks (Amber). She is very sweet and playful and is settling in well. I just wanted to ask how long you think it will be before Oscar accepts her. When I brought Amber home he hissed at her and ran away. He seems really frightened of her and will not be in the same room for longer than two minutes. She is completely unfazed by him and ignores him. She is really non-threatening and just walks away with her tail in the air. Oscar keeps going outside and sitting by the cat flap just watching the house. I feel so sorry for him..I hope he can get over it and the two can be friends..she isn't chasing him or being mean at all. I have been stroking her and then stroking him to transfer their scent and have also been giving him loads of fuss when he comes in. I know it's early days but I am feeling guilty that he feels unable to come in and chill out like he used to do. My husband, who adores Oscar, says that Amber will have to go if Oscar continues to bolt out the door when he sees her. I just wanted to be able to reassure him (and myself) that it will work out!
This is a very long post...sorry! Hope you can give me some reassurance..
