After losing my 5-year-old who was the love of my life to vaccine-associated sarcoma back in June, I just adopted a 12-week-old kitten. He was very friendly when I first met him in the shelter. I am confining him to my bedroom for now. I put all of his supplies in there, and have a plexiglass panel across the door, so he can't get out, but he can see out and I can look in on him.
When I first brought him home, he was a little nervous at first, but then he got used to his surroundings very quickly and made himself right at home. Plus, he seemed to bond with me very quickly. He was playing and eating well, following me around and generally seemed to be doing well and having a great time.
Meanwhile, I live in my parents' second home. They only come down on weekends in the summer. I was expecting him to be friendly toward them. But when they came down today, he hid under the bed and will not come out. I held him and tried to introduce him to my parents, who love animals. But he got scared and ran back under the bed.
I saw other people handle him at the shelter, and he was friendly toward them. I am kind of surprised, because he seems well-socialized. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
