Howdy everyone! I haven't been on here in AGES! But I have a bit of a dilemma [as always] and thought ya'll might be able to help!
Anyone have the skinny on the latest new foods being produced? Napolean is itching at his ear again, this time we're on Cal. Natural Herring and Sweet Potatoe. He's actually tolerating it pretty well, only digging at his ear instead of his face. I've used Mometamax [ear meds for dogs actually...] to keep the inflammation down, but don't want that to be the fixer, because it's a high dose of topical steroid, and steroids are bad news.
Before this, he was on Ziwi Peak Venison and doing fairly well on it, but it's just TOO expensive. I have two cats, I can't get different foods for them because Napolean would end up eating something he isn't supposed to, and it was costing me $100 a month to feed them since the food only comes in a 14oz bag that costs me $12.99, and Napolean actually dropped quite a bit of weight on it, like I'd say 2lbs at least, so now he's back to where he should be at.
In any case, he still reacted to the Ziwi Peak, which is too expensive for him to be itching! I talked to an allergist at a Continuing Ed class, and she said essentially I'll be switching foods his whole life and that we can always try rotating. z/d isn't even an option because it gives Napolean wicked diarrhea [a sign of allergic reaction] and even Pause's stools aren't quite normal on it because it's so broken down.
SO
Anyone know of any weird new diets? Maybe other diets using Sweet Potatoe? Napolean is for sure allergic to Peas, so nothing with Peas. He's reacted to all kinds of protein sources even things he hasn't ever had [buffalo, pheasant, duck, rabbit etc.] So if anyone has information on new foods, I am all ears! Raw is also pretty much out of the question. I bought some Elk to make a raw diet with, he refused to touch it raw, refused to touch it cooked, refused to touch it flavored with tuna, fish chowder, and a couple other flavorings from our pharmacy. He got sick on Nature's Variety patties, and since then refuses to eat raw food. But if anyone has any weird protein ideas, I am still totally all ears. I'm accepting the fact he's allergic to everything, but I need to find more foods to try, because I am running out of options.
Thanks!
Suzanne
