I jsut brought home a new cat older male I have a young female kitty prolly 7 months do they need seprate litter boxes? they have not met each other yet the new one is secluded

Are they both spayed and neutered? Ideally you should have as many litter boxes as you have cats.

so far the new cat has been secluded in my room for a few hours i used a towel to get its scent on it then I let the old cat play with it and you can tell they know one another is here so before I left for the store I switched there places old cat in the room and let new cat wonder around when Iintroduced the towel neither cat acted angry just curious so that I have returned I put new cat back in the room any ideas where to go next they clearley know one another is here i watched my old cat she is not fixed and still young new cat is a lot older boy but fixed I adopted him from a shelter what should I do next?
