Hello! I was wondering if anyone could provide some advice about my future feline friend.
I am going to be moving out on my own for the first time on August 5th. I really really really want to adopt a kitten. I've always loved cats and I can't wait to spoil one of my own.
However, my new job starts on August 17th and I will be leaving for training in Orlando from August 19th-28th.
Basically I have 2 options:
I can adopt my new baby on Saturday August 6th or Monday August 8th. That way I will be able to be with her 24/7 for a week and a half until my job starts on the 17th. My boyfriend would be with me as much as he could during that time so the kitty would get used to him, then he would stay in my apartment and watch her while I am gone for training from the 19th-28th. He does work so he wouldn't be in the apartment all day.
Or, I could wait until I get back from training and adopt her on a Friday after work and have all of Saturday and Sunday together. However, with this option, I'd have to leave her alone sooner- I work M-F 9-6.
I'm afraid if I get her before I start work we will not have as strong of a bond as there should be before leaving her for 10 days- that she might forget me or it might create a setback in our bonding together. I'm also afraid that we might bond extensively and she would be upset or anxious that I was gone. We would have about 9 - 11 full days to bond together with this option. However, if I waited to adopt her after I got back from training, we would only have about 2.5 full days together before leaving for work for 8 hours a day.
Which do you guys think is the better option? I reeeaaaaallllllyyyyy want to adopt my new friend as soon as possible, but of course I want to keep her best interests at heart. I don't want her to be stressed that I would be gone for 10 days, but then again, I also don't want her to be stressed after I'm gone for a few hours after 2.5 days either Mom thinks I should wait until after training to adopt, but I'd be so crushed to have to leave her all alone in a relatively new place.
