Well, the neighbours finally gave in and got their kids a kitten. Except for the fact that the DH didn't know anything about it. The mom went with the kids to the vets to check out the kitties (they provide care for the HS pregnant cats and adopt out some litters). The middle child fell in love with one of the kits. So home they came with it - totally unprepared. Mom had to run out and buy a bunch of stuff. The kitten is apparently 8 weeks old (it only looks to be about 4-6 weeks - scrawny little thing). Cute as a button and bold as brass. They named her Tucker after their fav hockey player (Darcy Tucker). As soon as I found out they got a kitten I went into "good neighbour" mode. I brought a bunch of cat toys, an old scratching post and printouts from TCS on declawing, cat safety and spaying the kitty. The DH is not too thrilled by the whole situation, but everyone else is on board. He says that he will make a cat tree for the little baby, and she "better not scratch my leather furniture or else" Their son is a little rough with her but I am working on him (he is an aggressive little cuss - with animals and other kids). Now I just have to find instructions on how to build a cat tree!
