Hey everybody, I'm new to the forums.
My husband's cat is 11 years old, female tonkinese ( Beans). We got a 7 month old male DSH kitten from the shelter for a companion for her a couple weeks ago. Fully vaccinated, neutered etc.
One evening about a week after we got the kitten, we noticed we hadn't seen Beans in a few hours. We found her hiding and she was drooling. We took her to the vet right away.
The vet did a blood test to check for kidney problems, there were none. She said Beans probably had an upper respiratory infection. That makes sense since we have heard the kitten sneeze occasionally. The vet gave Beans fluids and antibiotics, and an appetite stimulant pill. This was the evening of the 21st.
Since the vet visit, Beans hasn't been eating or drinking at all, despite the pill. We are giving her water with syringe and force-feeding her a nutritional gel. I'm worried because it has been like five days and she is still refusing to eat. I think she may have drunk a tiny bit but not enough. She has still been using her litterbox. Her eyes were leaky a couple days ago but they seem a lot better now. She is a little bit more active (responding to pets/brushing, jumping onto the bed or scratching post in her room) but mostly she is just lethargic. I've offered her all sorts of different foods and she will just sniff them and turn her head away.
Should I take her back to the vet? I don't want to go back if there's nothing they can do, I know if it's a virus we just have to wait it out.
