So sorry you weren't able to find out anything today, but I'm sure he doesn't think he's been abandoned. He's probably getting some much needed rest with the peace and quiet. Hopefully the vet will call you back tomorrow. Best wishes Duncan.
Someone should have called you today. Since no one did it may be a good sign that he is doing alright and is not an urgent case where they would make sure to do. By the same token I would be there tomorrow first thing asking for an explaination. Just spoil him rotten when he gets home and all will be well in that department. What's important is getting to the bottom of what is going on with him the rest can be fixed with some TLC.
Well, you all probably have seen the news. I wasn't able to get home from the weather. Duncan is still at the vet but we got an email from the doctor with him saying he was eating on his own, had a good bowel movement and urine. He would get in touch with us tomorrow. This is good news. I don't have anything to add other than that. Atlanta was terrible and many people including my sister spent the night somewhere, in a car, church, school, grocery store and other places. She spent the night at a McDonalds. She's back home now. Now we hope to get Duncan next.
Sure hope that you've made it home by now and, as crazy as it sounds, I'm glad your sister was able to spend the night at a McDonalds as opposed to being stuck on the highway somewhere. It's great that you finally heard something about Duncan, better yet that it was good news. The fluids obviously helped as he ate, peed, pooped. Hopefully, you'll be able to get him back home tomorrow, or at least see him and figure out a plan of action to find out what's going on.
Not yet. The vet wants to do another blood and urine analysis on him today and will have more info for us tomorrow. The actual vet's daughter fell and broke her leg yesterday in the ice so he wasn't there today. It's been weird without him here since we haven't been to work in 2 days. Maybe they will have good news for us tomorrow and we can bring him home. I'll have another update tomorrow.
Got news. Dr said it could be tubular disease or pre renal. He said both are manageable but would like to keep him there to hydrate him. They are doing more test and comparing them. He's done ultrasounds and all. He will call again tmrw.
Just finding out what's wrong with him and having a plan to manage it, whatever it is, will be such a relief, I'm sure. Logically it seems that the best way to determine a kidney related problem is measure in and measure out
. If so, he's in the perfect place right now to do that. You've both been through so much and it's hard to be patient. Hopefully, just another day or two and you'll have some answers.
Well, we went to visit Duncan this morning and he looks a lot better. He was happy to see us. The vet was waiting on a bowel movement and then we may get to take him home tomorrow. We will be given his thoughts on what we should do. He is eating on his own now. And let me say again that he looks so much better. He was happy to see us. He laid his head down on my arm when I was holding him. He was glad to see us as we were happy to see him. We hope to bring him home tomorrow. We will know more about his condition as well.
We got an email from the vet today. When he gives Duncan fluids his kidneys do good but after a while his kidney values increase. Sounds like kidney disease. We are going to see the vet Friday and find out our options. I'm not sure what will happen next. I've done some research on renal failure and know it isn't an immediate death sentence with proper care. When we saw Duncan Monday he looked so much better and was happy to see us. We were excited too and were positive. Now we are worried about what the next step will be. I'll keep you posted.
You may want to research "sub-q treatment cat" on here, on google or YouTube.
You can do it yourself at home. You'd be able to break him free from the vet....
Some here are pros at it.....hopefully, they'll chime in here.......
Here is the update. Duncan is home and is the happiest cat on Earth today. He has been so lovey and purring so loud. Rubbing all over us. He is a sweet cat.
The vet wants us to give him the sub-q fluids for 5 days and bring him back for more tests. We are supposed to give him Enrofloxacin once a day. The vet says his tests have been different and hard to understand. He says Duncan's kidneys aren't all the way up to renal failure level, so he's hoping there is an infection that the medicine may get rid of. But for now He wants us to give him renal food and fluids until we take him back in 5 days. We gave him his first fluid injection tonight and he did great. He was a little restless but purred the whole time since we were petting him.
I'll update you guys again as the days go by. Meanwhile, here's a picture of Duncan so happy to see us when we picked him up. Both his arms are shaved from the bloodwork.
Awwww so glad to hear he is home. My DeeJay is battling a kidney infection at the moment as well. She was super duper painful with it. But after about 5 days with meds, she's getting back to her normal self.
