Can anyone give me some insight into what these results might mean?
ALK. Phosphatase high at 75 U/L
ALT (SGPT) low at 26 U/L
Direct Bilirubin high at .2 mg/dl
A/G ratio (albumin/globulin) high at .9
RBC low at4.70 M/ul
HGB lo at 6.3 g/dl
HCT low at 21.3%
Neutrophil seg high at 76.6%
Lymphocytes low at 16.8%
Monocytes high at 4.6%
Eosinophil low at 1.7%
Auto platelets low at 86 K/ul
absolute lymphocytes low at 991 /ul
All other blood work is in the normal range. He is negative for both leukemia and immunodeficincy virus.
Poochie is my son's cat and is a neutered male about 13 years old. This started with a small tumor on his gum which is now almost gone. While we were waiting to have the surgery done he began losing weight. The day we took him in to do the surgery the vet said he looked anemic and had us run blood work. He is showing some minor improvement with low dose prednisone but I've read that this can decrease lymphocytes (which are already low). Some of the results seem to indicate a problem with liver function while others seem to point to a bone marrow problem like a cancer.
Does anyone have any suggestions for increasing RBC and iron and any further testing that might pinpoint the source of the problem?
