We may have found a new place! We went to look at it yesterday and fell in love. The owner just wants to verify my employment and get a reference from our current landlord, and we're in! (I called the current landlord and left him a message to call me. If he wants us out, it's in his best interest to give us a glowing review!) He knows we have cats, just not how many
and I am hoping we don't have to 'fess up. "Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies..."
The house is the Old Train Depot in Ward, CO, built in 1897 when it was a gold rush boom town. It is gorgeous!!! 2200 square feet (HUGE!), hardwood and polished marble floors, all the bannisters (as well as the trim on a dry bar in one of the 'community rooms') are polished brass. There is a spiral staircase to the second floor, which is a loft with a bedroom and a small glass-ceilinged "meditation room". The main floor has two huge (three times the size of my mom's living room, easily; you could hold a ballroom dance in them!) rooms which were the "community rooms"; they have a full window-wall on the south wall (which is where the trains would have come up) and there are two antique (and fully functioning) wood burning stoves that look like something you would make cappucino in! They are cast iron, brass and chrome and very beautiful. The kitchen is large enough to be the kitchen for a restaurant (it actually was for a while, the building was used as a restaurant and general store for years before being converted to a house.) and has a beaten copper backsplash. All the appliances are brand new. There is also an office on the main level which we plan on using as our computer room. The master bedroom (which will be my room) is downstairs, currently fits a king sized bed with lots of room to spare, has its own bathroom with a steam shower, and there is a waterfall...yes, a waterfall!!! in the bedroom. The owner turned what was the old coal shute into a waterfall with an aquarium pump and it is lined with river rocks. This place is like a museum.
Oh, and the best part...it may be haunted. Is that cool or what?????
There is also a small, one room cottage next door to it that is included in the rental, so if anyone comes to stay there is someplace to sleep!!
The house is at 9300 feet, 1300 ft higher than we are now. It's still only 18 miles to Boulder, we are 12 miles from Boulder where we are now, so there is not a significant change in my commute. The town of Ward has 179 residents. There are 2 general stores. It's really something amazing. Supposedly, people there periodically find gold in the ground even still. (will be sure to let you know if we find some, LOL!!!)
So, if all goes well, we will be moving on 6/1. Once we are in, will post a ton of pics. Please send vibes and keep your fingers crossed for us!
