There is a cat that hangs out down the street. I have been unable to decide if she just stays at that house or if they are her parents. Two female cats live there and both have recently had kittens. One of the cats comes down the street to my house twice a day for food - sometimes more. I don't mind feeding her (and she eats a lot!) but she is skinny as a rail - her hip bones are sticking out and she has a big belly. My problem is that I have tried several times to contact these neighbors. I've gone down there various times of the day and knocked on the door but no one ever answers (even with the car there). I finally left a note on the door offering to take the cats to be spayed (at my expense) and asked them to contact me. Still no response.
I talked to a vet and she gave me some dewormer which I just gave her. I'm hoping that the big belly is worms and not FIP. I just recently had another cat put down from FIP and I'm sure these cats are all from the same mother (which has since been spayed).
This morning she came up with an obvious injury. Her back left hip/leg have been injured. When I touched that side she went ballistic. She is unable to walk on it and is limping. I tried to put her in a carrier and she was in so much pain she started crying (yes, there were tears). This cat is friendly to me, will let me pet her, but not enough for me to pick her up. I hate to see any cat in pain and neglected.
My question is do I try to rescue this cat, call animal control or just ignore?
Thoughts, suggestions, advise?
Thanks!
Carla
