nomoremommyfood, my thoughts are with you. I was in a kind of similar situation once, in which I tried to rescue a very poorly "owned" cat who was basically not taken care of at all. I actually got the kitty for a month, but one of her "owners" saw her in my window (small town) and called the police and got her back. I'd taken her to the vet and had her chipped and everything.
I hope you and Flea can find some peace, and maybe after Jason is living with this kitty and actually has to care for Flea, he might reconsider your offer? I will hope so for you all.
