Hi! I'm brand new here and one of my kitties was breathing in a really labored way today :s He also pooped on the carpet! :O He's 16 and has hyperthyroidism and kidney problems (I can't remember which causes the other).
He seems to be a little bit better now, actually.
I asked the vet on the phone and an online vet about what could be the cause and what I should do, but I'm really scared of taking him to the vet. He is extremely sensitive and very easily startled and gets incredibly stressed out when he goes to the vet. The time we took him before in the early spring, he was yowling and freaking out when we left him with the vet. I was terrified for him! He hadn't lost that much weight at that point and was healthier, so I'm scared that if we take him to the vet now that something horrible might happen :<
The vet online said that he might have a thickened or enlarged heart from the hyperthyroidism and if that caused a blood clot to go to his lungs, they could have built up fluid :s I don't know what exactly happened to make him breathe like this but it's scary :<
His breathing seems a bit better now than it was earlier today, but I'm still really worried.
Has anyone else experienced this with their kitty with hyperthyroidism? Is it something just goes away?
I've been giving him Pet Wellbeing Thyroid Support Gold and Kidney Support Gold drops for almost a year. More than a year?! He hasn't really gotten better, but I don't know how he would be without the drops :s I've seen that some people combine the thyroid drops with that Hills Science Diet y/d food especially for hyperthyroid cats and those two TOGETHER work really well.
Is there anything I can do to help him without taking him to the vet? :s Has anyone helped their cats naturally when they have these problems? :s
Thanks <3
