Sasha is a seven-year-old Siamese female. She is in good health, not obese, and acts normally. Her anal glands became full recently. There was no indication of discomfort, but the smell from her behind was unpleasant. Our vet expressed her anal glands and got all the stuff out (there was a lot of it). A few days later, she began to leak from her anus. Not only did the bad smell come back, but she left yellowish blotches on fabric wherever she sat.
Suspecting a possible infection, the vet gave Sasha a shot of antibiotic that was supposed to last for two weeks. The leaking stopped almost immediately, but recurred after two weeks (when the antibiotic wore off). She was given a second shot of antibiotic, and the same thing occurred: the leaking stopped for two weeks and then came back. I will consult with the vet about this, but am hesitant to have her glands removed surgically because of the risks involved.
Has anyone experienced a situation similar to this (no apparent discomfort, acting normally, anal glands not full, but constantly leaking from anus)? Thanks!
