My kitten 2-3 months old scratch my eyeball while sleeping next to my face. I went to eye doctor and he gave me antibiotics. Its little blood gathered in the white part of my eye. He said its a small scratch nothing to worry about but you should get a tetanus shot. I dont remember last time when I get this shot. But my cat is indoor cat and he never goes out not even the balcony. and he scratch my arms and legs before nothing happen.
After I refused to get shot, one of the nurse suggested I should also get rabies shot? :x
I am not a holistic person but with the vaccines pros and cons and side effects I thought better not to get all shots. What do you think? Should I at least get tetanus?

You don't need the rabies vaccine, unless your cat dies of rabies in the next 10 days ;). But at some point you should get your cat the rabies vaccine so you don't have to worry about it.

You should get your tetanus shot though. That's a nasty disease and you should have a booster every 5-10 years even if you don't get cut/scratched, just to be safe. Tetanus is found in dirt so you can't really avoid it.

Ok. I saw an infection disease speacialist. Doctor told me that I dont need rabies. Just tetanus. Because cat is with me more then a month and he is strictly indoor cat. So I got the tetanus shot today. I think the speacialist is right since he is very small he cant survive if he has rabies?

No animal survives if it has rabies. That's why, if a tame animal bites or scratches you, you can keep that animal in your care for 10-14 days to see if they have rabies; they will die if they have it. You only need to get a rabies shot if the animal runs away or is wild so you can't keep an eye on it (or if it dies, of course). I'm glad you were able to speak to a specialist!

I was so anxious because of the ER doc. I know its the protocol but if its indoor cat I think its not necessary :) finally I an more relief but keeping Eye on the kittens :)
Ps. Nurse said its eye, its more dangerous since close to the brain etc... :( couldnt sleep at all.

Does the nurse not realize that rabies is transferred through saliva and not a scratch?
The kitten didn't bite you, did it?

Yes it was a scratch. She said cat lick their paws so there is a risk to get it. But doctor was more relax and informative. So I didnt believe the nurse and took a risk maybe. :)
