Hello all, I am completely desolate. My beautiful blue persian's jaw has dislocated a few times over the past year, every 5 months or so. It happened again last thursday, the vet fixed it, then it happened 4 times in the space of about 3 hours last night. We took him back and forth to the emergency vets to get it reset, and this morning took him to his normal vet to get some x-rays and some teeth removed.
This is breaking my heart, he cannot eat, drink or sleep when this happens, we could cope if it was every few months, but every few hours is too much for him to take. He is 12 years old and perfectly healthy and happy in every other respect, it would seem such an injustice if we had to have him put down because of this when he could have several more wonderful years was this not going on.
The x-rays show he has a loose jaw, and orthopaedic surgery has too much risk. He is currently sound asleep, after no sleep all of last night and surgery on his teeth today, the vets also had to put him on IV fluids because he hadn't been able to drink anything in so long. At the moment we are hopeful that having his teeth take out will make it more manageable, but if not, I do not know where to draw the line. I am sure you will understand what I mean when I say this cat is my soulmate, I cannot bear to lose him, I am at a complete loss right now.
