My grandfather passed away last night/this morning. He was 93, had only really been sick for about a week or so. I suppose I should have been expecting it, but the last communication from my aunt was that the antibiotics were working and the doctors were optimistic. Nothing prepares you for this.
I am really worried about my Grandmother, who is 92 or 93 also. He passed one day shy of their 71st anniversary. Wow. She hasn't been in the best of health since her battle with encephilitis (infection in the brain) last year, but has been getting better. But I worry about her and how she'll get on without him.
None of my immediate family can make it out for the wake on Wednesday and funeral on Friday. Dad and I talked this morning (this is actually my mother's parents, not his), and we're thinking of trying to go down to Georgia sometime in the spring to visit Grandma and my aunts for a happy visit instead of a rushed and sad visit. I hope Grandma holds on that long.
