If he's not a smoke, I would say that he's a black cat. You might just have to breed him first to find out if he produces any smokes, silvers, or cameos. I'd try to breed him to a brown tabby, since I think it will be much easier to identify a silver over another smoke or a cameo.

I'd say black if he's not black smoke. Try to look at the hairs on the tail. Are they silvery in the bottom and black at the tip? If so, he's probably smoke. If the hairs are all black, he's probably black. If the hairs are all greyish... you can't really tell. Then you'll have to see what colors he produce in the kittens.
