As you all know, we have 4 female Siamese cats:Angel, a pure black with amber eyes who is about 9 years old; Cringer and Sarobi, Calicos who are actually indentical twins (which I'm told is rare in the cat world); and Sagwa, who is pure white with points and the BIGGEST blue eyes you have ever seen. (She got her name from the cartoon cat "Sagwa", not only because I'm a fan and collector of "Sagwa", but also because they look alike!!) Sagwa, Cringer, and Sarobi are all two years old. Angel delivered them not long after we rescued her.
The problem we are having is with Sagwa's behavior. Because of her looks, our friends let her get away with things that she shouldn't, and they pay more attention to her than to our other cats when they visit our home...even going so far as to push the other cats away if they want attention.
In fact, there is only one couple we know that when they come to visit try to give all of the cats equal attention. This started when Sagwa, Sarobi, and Cringer were kittens. Another couple we are friends with used to live right across the hall from us. They would let Sagwa come over and let her do things my fiance and I would never allow...like scratching the furniture and climbing in the fridge to "inspect" the food. When she was bad, instead of telling her "No", they would give her a treat and say; "Oh, she's so cute!" Everyone we know treats her like this...and it is leading to behavioral problems, and jealousy problems.
Now, we have a cat who-for lack of a better word-is "spoiled". Sagwa will do thing she isn't supposed to, like scratch furniture, or the worst-beg for food, even trying to take it right off your plate! Then, if we try to discipline her, she shows her anger by peeing and pooping on the floor. The other day, my fiance told her to stop begging, and that night when he was sleeping she climbed on him and started peeing! She has a clean bill of health, so we know this behavioral.
Here are my questions...
1. How do we tell people not to let Sagwa do things that are naughty just because she is "cute"?
2. How do we tell them that it is wrong to push our other cats away? They are getting upset with all the attention Sagwa gets. In fact, my shy and sweet kitty Sarobi hisses and tries to attack Sagwa all the time now because of jealousy.
3. I was told that at 2 years old Sagwa, Sarobi, and Cringer are still kittens, but are kind of in a "Toddler" stage. Does this mean that Sagwa is doing some of these things because she is too young to understand "No"?
4. How do I get her to stop scratching the furniture? We refuse to declaw, but I do trim her nails.
5. How do we get her to stop trying to take food off our plates and stop sticking her paw in our drinking glasses?
6. How do we stop her from going on the floor (or us) when she is mad?
I'm sorry this is so long. I hope you all can help me!
