Last night s I was about to go to sleep I heard a strange noise in the living room, I rushed only to find my 4 year old female girl panting heavily on the floor and clearly in acute distress. So I immediately took her to the animal hospital where she was given oxygen and kept overnight in a special cage. She has had trouble breathing and coughs a bit but the vets I took her to assumed it was allergy to the cat sand or asthma, they were still trying to figure it out when this happened.
Today I get a call from the vet saying that her blood plaquetes are very low, more tests were done and they called me again to inform me that it is probably leukemia. They do not yet know for sure, a test will be done tomorrow but for the vet to call me ahead of time leads me fear the worst...at this point I have almost given up all hope. Tomorrow I will be seeing her and am preparing myself to say goodbye.
I feel like I've failed her, she must have been very sick for a long time and I did not notice. It does not help that I've been very sick myself, got out of the hospital recently and my meds have caused my feet to swell so much that I cannot even wear shoes and can even hardly walk...but still, as her owner I should have realized something was off. I am a horrible cat owner, god only knows if I have any right to keep my other cat, maybe she'll be better off with someone who isn't an idiot and can actually see what's wrong before it gets to this point.
My poor, poor cat deserved a better owner than I.
