Geddy Lee, my grey and white Tabby just passed last night. He would have been 8 years old on July 5th. His meows over the past week had gotten weak and raspy sounding. So we decided to schedule him an appointment at the vet next tuesday after the holiday. We decided because he was still eating well and active that we decided to wait till after the holiday.
When I got home from the grocery store last night, a noise from my other cat Vegas playing in a bag prompted me to go see where Geddy was. He was laying on his side in the dining room, when I called his name there was no movement, his ears did not even twitch. I knew something was really wrong. I picked him up as he was still warm and his arms and legs were very limp. I attempted a few short breaths down his nose but his heart was not beating. He was gone. I am very sad today.... as my wife and I and Vegas miss him very much.
He hasnt been the healthiest his whole life, we nursed him back to health in 2000 after the Vet told us to put him to sleep. He had a gum disease taht would swell up his mouth from time to time back then but since getting him healthy it hasnt returned. He has been very healthy since until very recently.
I could always tell when he wasnt feeling well as he would want attention from me and would seek me out. The night before when I picked him up and he folded his paws in my arms and began purring as if he was going to sleep, I had a feeling he wasnt feeling very good. It isnt normal for him to fold his paws up in my arms and go to sleep. I think he was telling me he loved me and that he was saying goodbye. The next morning both cats were up and ready for their breakfast as usual, geddy was active. It all happened so fast I just dont know what happened.
I suspect he had a seizure. I just dont know. We buried him last night in our yard with his favorite toy. We miss him terribly already.
