I posted about my kitty Pumpkin about a month ago. He's a stray I took in a few months ago, and he went to the vet, had his shots and was treated for tapeworm. The tapeworm medication worked and I haven't seen any of those things since. He's also been treated for hariballs and constipation w/Laxatone.
The vet believes my cat is about 3-4 years old. He's strictly an indoor kitty, and now that Spring is here, he's getting more antsy. He wants me to let him out for a run and I just won't do it.
Could the stress of wanting to be let out just about every day be the reason he's losing small amounts of fur on his belly? It's getting to the point where he's got a couple of small bare spots, one of which looked pink and felt dry in the middle. He won't let me take a closer look.
This seems to be happening on the part of his belly that hangs down. Pumpkin looks like he's got a pot belly, but the vet wasn't concerned about it. She doesn't want him gaining any more weight though.
I'm positive that Pumpkin has no fleas, but at times I'll see him scratch at both ears and under his chin. So far he hasn't lost any fur in those spots.
Pumpkin has been acting funny as of late. I think it's because I won't let him out. He's been known to meow loudly and run from one end of the apartment to the other (it's an efficiency). He likes to explore forbidden areas, like the tall cupboard in the main room and has been known to hide out in my tub (when it's empty, of course).
Not only that, I'm just getting over the stomach bug and am feeling the stress of getting ready for our move on May 1st. I'm having a colonoscopy next week. Could it be that my cat is being affected by the stress I am under? Is that why he's losing small patches of fur?
Other than what I just mentioned, Pumpkin seems to be doing fine. He eats and drinks. His poop seemed firmer than usual tonight and he strained, but not nearly as bad as before. I started him back on the Laxatone this morning.
Do you have any ideas as to why Pumpkin is losing small patches of fur? I've been finding small patches here and there, normally the size of a dime to a quarter. Two or three at least each day, sometimes more.
If it's stress-related, I wonder what impact the move will have on him. I plan on doing this in two stages - most everything on day 1, so that putting boxes away and setting up furniture won't bother him. He will come with me, of course, on day 2.
Btw, he does NOT like to ride in vehicles. Whenever he goes to the vet, Pumpkin will meow rather loudly.
Help!
P.S. Since I wrote this post, Pumpkin jumped on my bed and reclined near me, so I was able to get a closer look at one of his bare spots. It was pinkish with what looked like a pimple in the middle. When I touched it he seemed annoyed. Maybe he's over-grooming himself?
