This is very odd and I have no idea how it's even possible.
I suffer from panic attacks sometimes. When it happens and I'm not in public (it's easier to deal with at home), there are no outward symptoms. I just try to sit quiet and still until it passes. I don't breathe fast or make a noise or anything like that. Basically, I just act normal. People around me can't tell it's happening.
However, if I am in the same room as my cat and I start to have a panic attack, my cat somehow knows. Just today, I had one and he was sitting across the room from me. I was on my couch with my computer on my lap kind of lounging behind it so my cat could only seem my legs. A panic attack came on and I didn't do anything different, but my cat at that moment let out a loud meow and ran to me from across the room then climbed onto my keyboard, sat on his butt with his legs straight out facing me and hugged me with both arms while pressing his face into mine.
He has done this before. He will lay on me and hug me, pressing his face and body against me harder than usual and touching my face and hair with his paws and my panic attack just lifts! Once I start to feel better, he usually rolls off me and goes to sit on the floor and take a bath or sleep or whatever.
Has anyone else experienced this with their cat? How does he know!?? I wonder if he can smell the adrenaline rush or something! I've lived with other cats since I've begun experiencing panic attacks and none of them acted this way.
